In this episode of “Bred to Perfection,” we are talking with Heather Thelen, owner of Hawthorne Country Store.
As you know, in episodes 35, 36, and 37 we talked with Poultry Nutritionist, Jeff Mattocks. Jeff gave us great insight and information on feeds, feeding and nutrition. Today, we are taking this subject to the next level. We are going to discuss the role Feed Stores play in the breeding and raising of our fowl.
The modern-day feed store is the liaison between the feed manufacture and the backyard breeder. They are also our connection to the State Vet and the State Lab.
The feed store industry is an indispensable factor in the growth, development and preservation of our strains and breeds. They make it possible for the breeder to create, improve and maintain their strains.
It’s through the feed stores that we obtain what we need to provide good nutrition, supplies, health care aids, and for many of us, need to know information. If truth be told, we as breeders, could not accomplish our goals without them. They are the unsung heroes of the poultry and livestock industry.
This episode is great for all chicken and poultry raisers, gamefowl and chicken breeders, and other feed store owners. We can all learn a lot by Heathers example. She runs a great store, and she supports her customers and her community. Heather is an asset to everyone she meets.
