The Most Common Mistakes of Backyard Breeders
with Peter Brown, “The Chicken Doctor”
I happy to announce that we have a new member of our team. Many of you already know him or have heard of him, and have listened to his teaching for years. And that is Peter Brown, also known as “The Chicken Doctor.”
Peter is going to make a great addition to Bred to Perfection, both the Podcast and the Live Show. We are very excited about all the information Peter is going to share with us, and as a team member, he will be a reoccurring guest on this show.
We have created a new series of shows, that we call, “Healthy Practices for Healthier Fowl,” and we have a number of topics that I know you will like.
This show is not only going to be good for beginners, but I believe all breeders will learn and enjoy these episodes.
We plan to talk about:
- The Most Common Poultry Disease and Problems
- Parasites, both internal and external
- Incubation and Chick Care
- How to perform a proper Flock Examination and Evaluation
- The Risks of Showing and Exhibiting your Birds, and how to do it safely
- How to improve your farm management practices
- Recognizing and dealing with Environmental Problems
- The importance of Biosecurity, and how to do it properly
- We will talk about the parts of the body that are most affected by disease?
- How to recognizing diseases, in the early stages?
- And we will talk about the different methods of treatment and vaccination
- And a lot more!
In this episode, we get to know Peter at a personal level. We will learn about his life, and how he became The Well-known “Chicken Doctor,” and his aspirations for the future.
In this episode, we also jump into the first topic of the series, “The Most Common Mistakes of Backyard Breeders.”
We will discuss topics, such as:
- How do you feel about the advice given online?
- The value of a good mentor
- Do many beginners have unrealistic ideals, plans or goals?
- What is the best advice we could give a beginner, to get them off on the right foot?
- What are the dangers of getting too big, too fast?
- What are the pros and cons of starting out with too many breeds and strains?
- What are the consequences of not having enough pens or pen space?
- What are the consequences of mixing birds from different sources?
- What are the consequences of mixing birds of different ages?
Hopefully these episodes will help our listeners, and prevent them from making the same mistakes as others.
These are all great topics I know you will want to listen to and learn from.
Just so you know, my outline for this episode was packed with important topics. We were not able to address them all in one episode, so were addressed the rest in Part 2. So, make sure to catch that one as well.
With that said – “Welcome to the Show – Peter!”
There’s a lot of great nuggets of information that I know you will not want to miss.
