Can Conformation and Performance Ability be Improved by Infusing New Blood?
There is a big difference between a true breeder and a wannabe breeder. What’s the difference? It comes down to science vs speculation. Although speculation produces favorable results, from time to time, science produces the same results, without fail, every time. Science is right, but only succeeds if breeders are willing to accept it and use it. The problem is, most would rather avoid the science. They feel it’s too difficult to learn and use, and so they discard it as useless and irrelevant. If they only knew that this kind of thinking is holding them back, and that by embracing the science, they would save so much time and money, and they would get the results they were looking for. One of the biggest falsehoods is the idea that you can fix a trait by adding or infusing new, outside blood. Or the idea that you can infuse outside blood to refresh and strengthen a weak family. Crossbreeding to introduce new traits, and infusion to refresh a weak strain has become standard practice with most modern day breeders. The problem is, it’s a practice that doesn’t really work as advertised. Also, many believe that traits can be improved through infusion or crossbreeding, such as conformation of body and performance ability. These are two traits that cannot be improved by adding or infusing new blood. These traits require a different type of selection and breeding practice to improve, and adding outside blood is the wrong approach. It’s our hope that we can change your perception about the science of breeding, and encourage you to change your practice as well. You are only going to improve your breeding, when you can accept the science.
Make sure to follow and watch our future shows. We plan to dive deep into the world of breeding and genetics, nutrition and health management, and provide essential tips, so you too can create high quality strains. Whether you’re breeding domestic chickens, gamefowl, or various types of livestock, this show is for you.
Join us on Bred to Perfection Live, Friday’s at 6pm PST or 9pm EST on YouTube, as we discuss the benefits of creating your own strain.
See ya there!

Founder of “The Breeders Academy”
We specialize in breeding, and breeding related topics. This includes proper selection practices and the use of proven breeding programs. It is our mission to provide our followers and members a greater understanding of poultry breeding, poultry genetics, poultry health care and disease prevention, and how to improve the production and performance ability of your fowl.
If you are interested in creating a strain, or improving your established strain, you are in the right place.
We also want to encourage you to join us at the Breeders Academy, where we will not only help you increase your knowledge of breeding and advance your skills as a breeder, but improve the quality and performance of your fowl.

In this episode of Bred to Perfection, host Kenny Troiano discusses various aspects of poultry breeding, focusing on improving genetic traits without infusing new blood. Kenny, alongside co-host Nancy, explains the importance of selective breeding, understanding genetic factors, and the pitfalls of adding new blood to an existing strain. They emphasize the need for knowledge in genetics to effectively improve traits like conformation, performance, and production ability.
