Join us as we discuss the truth about breeding programs, and why they are so important in the creation, improvement, and maintaining of a strain.
Everyone knows about outcrossing, backcrossing, inbreeding, line-breeding, and infusion. But, no one knows why they are doing it, or when they should do it. They think those methods are the means to the end, when in reality, they are only tools used in a larger, more complete breeding program.
Today we are going to discuss the truth about breeding programs, and why they are so important when creating, improving and maintaining a strain.
Most don’t know what is a true breeding program. When most think about breeding programs, they think of line-breeding, but there is more to breeding than line-breeding, which is a method of breeding, not a breeding Program.
Everyone knows about inbreeding, line-breeding, but, no one knows why they are doing it, when they should do it, or for how long they should do it. They also confuse line-breeding with backcrossing. They think those methods are the means to the end, when in reality, they are only tools used in a more complete breeding program.
Line-breeding is a fantastic tool, but when used exclusively, only creates problems. The truth is, you cannot line-breed forever.
The reality for most modern breeders, very few are able to start with a well-established strain. Most are starting with fowl that are unrelated, or from birds that are the product of multiple crosses. These are nothing more than hybrid crosses or mongrels.
Question of the day – How do you create a strain?
By using a true breeding program? But, what is a true breeding program?
- A breeding program is more that genetics.
- A breeding program is more than selecting brood fowl.
- A breeding program is more than one method of mating.
A breeding program is a system that integrates all aspects of breeding to achieve a specific outcome. It consists of a series of breeding methods:
- Used for a specific purpose
- Used in a specific order
- Used for a specific length of time
Breeding Programs are needed for creating a strain, and to Improve:
- Uniformity and consistency
- Predictability
- And to create a strain that can reproduce themselves as a family
That is why I have created a breeding program, called the Founders Program. This program is designed specifically for breeders starting with Hybrid crosses, Mongrels, or Birds from different breeders. It was also created for breeders that have great birds, and want to create a strain, but they are the product of multiple crosses. Or you have a great cock from one breeder and a great hen from another breeder, and you want to create a strain. I Studied many successful breeders, and recognized the Common denominators of many successful breeders.
The Founders Program is well laid out, it will take you step by step through the breeding process, it will give you the tools you will need to create a true strain, and it will show you how to improve that strain for years to come. All without the introduction of new blood.
This program is available at the Breeders Academy.
- No more guessing, wondering what to do, or when to do it.
- No longer will you be doing it alone.
- I will be with you every step of the way.
Join us at the Breeders Academy, and learn how to create a true strain, one that you can be proud of. I will help you to increase your knowledge of breeding, advance your skills as a breeder, and help you to improve the quality and performance of your fowl. I am confident that if you follow my advice, your fowl will improve. Best of all, once you understand the principles of selective breeding, that knowledge is yours for life.
I also do coach calls with my members.
- I show them where their fowl are good.
- I show them where they need to be improved.
- I help them decide where in the Founder’s Program they are.
- And, what to do next.
