Culling can be the greatest tool for most breeders, and controversial for other. But the truth is, most don’t know what to cull, when to cull and why they should cull. Just go to a breeder’s farm and look around. Once you are aware of all the defects or diseases that exist, you soon see how faulty most farms are, even on farms of so-called great breeders. The question is, why? As we know, culling is the most difficult part of breeding for most breeders, and therefore the most avoided practice. This occurs for many reasons, but none are good, because culling can make or break your strain. As you will learn, culling is a necessary function of creating a strain, and you need to make it a big part of your breeding program.
