In this episode of Bred to Perfection, we will talk about why 85 percent of all breeders are failing to create or improve their strains. We will it break down into 4 separate categories, such as: The Ignorant Breeder, The Neglectful Breeder, The Mixer and Cross-breeders, And, the Accidental Breeder, and discuss who they are and ways to improving them, and why some will succeed and others will fail. There’s a lot of good information packed into this episode that I know you will not want to miss.
Breeders and Peddlers
Ep141 – Crossbreeding and the Recombination of Genes
I’ve always said that the Name Game is nothing more than the peddler’s playground, and they use crossbreeding to keep the Name Game alive. If the cross works, then they say it was a great cross. If the cross fails, then they say, cross them again, and again, and again.
Ep134 – Buying a Strain vs Making a Strain
What are the benefits of buying someone else’s strain vs creating your own strain? I’m a firm believer that it’s better to create your own strain, then to rely on others to do it for you. Anytime you purchase new birds you are taking a chance. Because the fact is, there are more peddlers than true breeders, and most of the birds available are not pure, they are nothing more than hybrid crosses or mongrels. To make matters worse, many breeders only sell their culls. If you’re not one of their family or friends, most likely you are not going to get good birds. THE BIG QUESTION IS, should you create your own strain, or do you continue to bounce around trying to find great fowl? For me, I would rather create my own strain.
Ep101 – The Misconceptions of Breeding with Tony Saville
This episode is about “The Misconceptions about Breeding.” These are popular misconceptions that tend to hold most breeders back. And can prevent you from creating anything special or superior or great.
THE THREE MOST DANGEROUS BREEDERS
In this episode of Bred to Perfection, we will talk about the 3 most dangerous breeders. These are breeders who use breeding practices that are detrimental to the breed as a whole. These include those who believe in combining the traits of two separate and distinct “breeds”, such as American Games and Aseels, each having contrasting characteristics and traits. Those that think they can mix the traits of two separate strains, such as Hatch and Sweater, and produce offspring expressing the best of both strains. And those who believe that Performance overrides all other factors.
This is a problem that concerns me very much, as it should concern you as well. Breeders who think and practice in this manner will never reach the statue of Master Breeder. Without the proper knowledge and knowhow to put these principles to practice, they will never reach the highest levels of success.
