As many of you know, I’m a big fan of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World books and movie series. In fact, I like all movies that are based on science. This is especially true with the Jurassic series. I think is has to do with the creation of new life, in this case, the recreation of prehistoric dinosaurs. I like that it talks about genetic technology, such as genetic engineering, genetic modification and the use of recombinant DNA. As a breeder, I eat this stuff up!

ACQUIRING AND CREATING A TRUE STRAIN
A breeder, who starts with high quality fowl, which I like to call “Foundation Fowl,” or the “Adam and Eve” of any strain, is one with a huge advantage over those who don’t. By starting out with high quality foundation fowl, and using proper selective breeding practices, along with hard culling, it’s not only a huge advantage, but it is the road to a successful strain.
The Benefits of Creating your own Foundation Strain
Getting birds from other breeders can be quite dangerous. Their ideas of how or what gamefowl should look, act and perform like can be a lot different than yours. That’s if they have an idea of what they have at all.
RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY BREEDER
It is the responsibility of every breeder to be a good representative and protector of their breed, safeguarding their integrity, maintain their standard of excellence, and continue to improve his strain. It is every breeder’s responsibility to inspire new breeders to preserve their breed for future generations.
ARE THEY PURE?
Are they pure? It’s quite easy to pick out traits that are dominant, but difficult to determine the purity of that trait. For instance, pea-comb is dominant over single-comb, and white legs are dominant over yellow legs, which in turn is dominant over green legs. And let’s not forget that Silver/Grey feathering is always dominant over Red feathering. But can you tell, just by looking at a bird, whether it is pure or mixed? Strangely enough you can, but only if the expresses traits are recessive.
