This is an interview with one of our members of the Breeders Academy, his name is Dino Morell.
What I like about these interviews is that you, the listener, in most cases are just like the person being interviewed. They are not experts, but neither are you. In most cases, they are where you are at.
If you are a beginner or someone in the early stages of your journey, these interviews will not only make you feel normal, but they will show you that you are not alone, like you are not the only one going through this, and experiencing the same things.
You’ve had a few disappointments, and progress has been slow or nonexistent, and you are tired of the lack of progress. But the truth is, we all make mistakes, and in many cases, the same mistakes.
Sit back and listen to what these breeders have to say, and the experiences that they share.
I do believe these interviews are extremely valuable, and that you will learn new ways of doing things, and benefit from the ideas and experiences that they share. Not to mention, you will obtain confirmation that in some ways you are doing just fine.
Another great addition to the interviews is the questions they have for me. They are most likely the same question you would ask, or need answers to.
About today’s interview:
At the time of this recording, Dino was not a member of the Breeders Academy. He was always planning to join, but had not at this time. But I wanted to interview Dino because he always asked great questions, and I could see he had a lot of interest in breeding and learning what it takes to create great fowl.
Dino runs a Facebook Groups page, called “Gamefowl Breeding and Care 101” and he is interested in providing his followers useful information.
Well, I am glad to report that within a week or so after this recording, he did join and become a member, and has been a proud member ever since. He is a great edition to the rest of the community, and he always asks great questions.
The first half of the show is about Dino and his breeding and raising practices, and the second half are questions Dino has for me about breeding.
I believe there is a lot to learn in this episode of Bred to Perfection, and I know you will enjoy the show.
Part 1:
Topics include:
- Dino tells his own story, and how he got started as a breeder.
- What he thinks about American Games, their stigma, and how he would explain the breed to other people.
- The person who had the greatest influence on him, and got him started in the right direction.
- He talks about the birds he started with and the birds he breeds and raises today.

- The difference between breeding methods and breeding programs, and the breeding programs he is using for his fowl.
- The value of learning new methods, and increasing your knowledge of breeding.
Part 2:
Questions Dino had for me:
- How important is passion in the breeding of fowl?
- Why do so many breeders believe that Hybrids do not make good brood fowl?
- What will you learn from the Breeders Academy?
- Where does “Kenny Troiano” need improvement, when it comes to breeding? Yikes!
- Where does “Kenny Troiano’s” strains need the most improvement?
- When is the best time to give your strain your name?
- How important is grass in your yard?
- Do you give extra supplements and trace minerals to your fowl?
- What do you think about feeding your fowl dog food and cat food?
- What about feeding your fowl oats, what are the pros and cons?
- How do you deal with mites and lice?
- Do you add cod liver oil to your feed?
- Can you tell by the “Crow” what bloodline and Breeds they carry?
We really enjoy the members interview and coaching calls. Doing these kinds of calls connects us to our members on a personal level and that’s what I love about them. And the fact that we are able to help our members get on the right path to raising high quality fowl.
I hope you enjoyed the show and learned a lot too.
