We have a great show for you. It’s an interview with my good friend and Master Breeder, Jack Dodd.
But, before we do, I want to talk about a few things we have planned for future episodes
- We want the show to be multidimensional – so that its entertaining, interesting and informative
- Tip of the week – answer questions from our listeners and Facebook Groups page
- Bird or flock analysis – This is something new – where you send me pictures or videos of your birds and I will critique them on the show. I will share what I think, and give you tips on how to improve them. Well start this next week.
JACK DODD’S INTERVIEW
Let me tell you, I was very excited about interviewing Jack Dodd. I’ve known him for many years, and in many ways, I look at him as one of my mentors. He’s always had some of the best fowl, especially with his Old English Game Bantams. And, he has a great understanding of breeding that all of us should emulate.
Just so that everyone knows, Jack is a member of the Breeders Academy, and I’m glad to have him aboard. He’s a great breeder and a tough competitor in the shows.
Talking Points:
- We learn when jack first got started
- Who had the greatest influence on him?
- What was his greatest lesson learned?
- The breeds and varieties that are his favorite, and where he got his seed fowl.
- Are his strains progressing as he hoped?
- Where he would like to see improvement?
- What traits is he trying to improve at this time?
- What he’s doing to improve the quality of his fowl?
- Jack will share his thoughts on selection and culling
- What he looks for when selecting breeders?
- We will also learn Jack’s favorite method of breeding – and what he thinks about other methods of breeding.
- Jack will also share his thought on breeding to color, and how he uses Double Mating to improve the color of his strains.
- This will also include improving specialty colors, such as golden duckwings and pyles
- We also dig deep into the idea of Purity of Blood
- We talk about the benefits of using a well-planned breeding program
- Jack tells us why the hen is always more important than the cock.
- Health care and disease prevention
- And, what Jack looks at as his biggest mistake
Thanks Jack, I really appreciate the talk, and I know this is going to help so many breeders.
