I must say, when I began my journey researching the Aseels, I had little knowledge and experience of this breed. In fact, they were not my breed of choice. However, I was pleasantly surprised and found this breed both enlightening and quite interesting. By the time I had finished my research and written the article, I was elated to share my findings with my readers. I hope you will, through this article, find a new love for this breed and for those of you who already breed this extraordinary fowl, I gladly accept your “I told you so” comments with glee.

Recently, my wife, Nancy and I were driving into town for our daughters’ event.  I was talking with her about how I wanted to include breeders who prefer crossbreeding over pure breeding into the Breeders Academy. We were discussing ways I could help them to produce high quality fowl, with superior performance and production abilities by using better selective breeding practices with the benefits of genetics to achieve their goals.

They are essential to your success. Without the guidance of an experienced person, you’re basically reinventing the wheel. You’ll make mistakes that could have been prevented. You’ll spend money and time that could have been avoided.

I usually say – “if you have one good cock and one good hen, then you have what’s necessary to create or improve a strain.
If they have the desirable traits, then you should breed them and produce as many offspring as possible.  Once you have a good number of offspring, select the standouts that have the ability to improve and perpetuate the strain.
If you select properly and resist the temptation to add or infuse outside blood, within a few years, you should have a fairly good foundation. Continue the process, and in time you will have a strain that you can be proud of.
